FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PORTERHOUSE'S FEVERISHLY FUNKY DEBUT CD
THUMBS UP LITTLE BUDDY GETS "THUMBS UP"
FOR NATIONAL RELEASE BY LAUAN RECORDS

BOULDER, CO (July 19, 2001) -- PORTERHOUSE's undeniably funky debut CD THUMBS
UP LITTLE BUDDY seized the attention of Lauan Records (LEW-on), so "The
Jamband Label" gleefully gave the album the "thumbs up" for national release
Oct. 30, 2001.

"PORTERHOUSE hooked us from the first beat," said Lauan partner Seth
Goldberger. "Their confident and thick grooves forced us immediately onto the
dance floor. With each additional song we heard, we became more and more
impressed with the strength, variety and power of their performance. After
the show, we met with the band and found them to be as impressive personally
as they are musically. From that first meeting, we knew we wanted them to
join the Lauan Family team."

The Vermont Review called THUMBS UP LITTLE BUDDY "an amazingly produced foray
into the world of horn inflected, Hammond B-3, massively syncopated and
always polyrhythmic dance-til-you drop grooves."

PORTERHOUSE harkens back to the original early '70s explosion of the rocking
fusion of jazz and funk in the wake of Miles Davis' landmark Bitches Brew.
The Portland, Ore.-based quintet shares the joy of that first flash as their
driving, percolating grooves recall the keyboard wizardry of Herbie Hancock's
Headhunters, the power packed wallop of the Tower of Power horn sound and the
lush melodiousness and pure love of Mister Magic-era Grover Washington, Jr.
PORTERHOUSE tosses some finger-popping Meters style syncopation into the mix,
too.

PORTERHOUSE celebrates that era's excitement of exploration, and wears the
fun of the journey in every note. PORTERHOUSE plays it meaty, greasy and hot!

PORTERHOUSE keyboardist Joey Porter, the band's main man, wrote, arranged and
produced THUMBS UP LITTLE BUDDY. Tenor and alto sax man Josh Cliburne,
trumpet and fluglehorn ace Derek Sims and the crack bass/drums rhythm team of
Sean Foote and Micah Kassell complete the band. Guests on THUMBS UP LITTLE
BUDDY include conga/bongo man Carl Smith, Joe Cunningham on tenor sax and
C.D. Littlefield on trumpet.

What' missing? As PORTERHOUSE boldly states, "No guitars were used in the
making of this album!"

The band has been privileged to open shows for the likes of Parliament
Funkadelic, John Scofield, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Galactic.

A Joey Porter keyboard flourish opens the album as it kicks in the smoking
title song. Listen for delighted squeals from the players as "Thumbs Up
Little Buddy" ends. "Blanket Party" cools the tempo a mite, but the stew
keeps boiling with purpose. Mellow down for "Marination" with a wild wah-wah
trumpet solo by Mr. Littlefield and the oh-so-tuneful "One Of Those Moods."
Then sizzle to some "Steak Sauce, Part 1" with a furious Cunningham sax solo
and change gears completely for the Arabic flavored "Temporary Insanity."
Don't miss the portrait of the very sexy "Charlotte Reuss" featuring Derek
Sims. The mysterious "Neopolitan" closes the show with torrid Josh Cliborne
solos amid the otherwise cool late evening groove.

Try not falling into PORTERHOUSE's seductive, beguiling grooves. Your toes
tapping and fingers snapping to the insistent beat will betray you every time.

PORTERHOUSE first released THUMBS UP LITTLE BUDDY as Porterhouse Quintet last
year in its Pacific Northwest home territory. But now the secret is out. You
can't keep true funk down. Lauan Records proudly unleashes THUMBS UP LITTLE
BUDDY to the whole funk starved world Oct. 30, 2001.
More good news: PORTERHOUSE expects to uncork a sizzling new powerhouse
studio album before 2001 is over.

Lauan Records is dedicated to building a community for the burgeoning jamband
scene. Founded to chronicle the creative efforts of jambands across the
United States, Lauan Records is not just another record label. It is for and
by fans, providing them with a network to discover new bands and new shows,
unifying what has traditionally been an extremely regional scene. Many have
described Lauan not as a record label, but more as an artist community.
