September 01, 2000--Lauan Records (Lew-On) announced today the completion of its next album, Wise Monkey Orchestra's "They Live," to be released September 30th 2000. Featuring one of the West Coast's hottest funk bands, "They Live" captures Wise Monkey where they're best: live and on stage.
The band's performance encompasses all that we love about the jamband scene; deftly weaving jazz and rock together around a backbone of funk to bring to you Wise Monkey's best album to date. This also marks the first full release with Wise Monkey's current lineup, bringing new life and vigor to the already exciting septet.
"We're thrilled with how "They Live" came out," said Reed Stewart manager for Wise Monkey. "It really pulls together our live sound and puts as much funk as possible into one little disc."
"They Live" also features a guest performance from Dave Ellis founding member of the Charlie Hunter Trio and current saxophonist for The Other Ones and Rat Dog. "Ellis's tenor tone is edgy and uplifting, introspective and outgoing," commented Jazz Times critic Eugene Holley, Jr.
Calling San Diego, CA home Wise Monkey Orchestra has toured the entire United States, Canada, and Mexico for more than seven years. In that time, they have also released four critically acclaimed full-length albums and were featured on Lauan Records' "Three Sets: Volume 2."
Lauan Records, based in Boulder, Colorado, is dedicated to building a community for the evolving jamband scene. Founded to chronicle the creative efforts of jambands across the United States, Lauan Records is not just another record label; it is for and by fans, providing them with a network to discover new bands and new shows, unifying what has traditionally been an extremely regional scene.
