Bluebird's new cocktail mixes movies, music In fact, it's a good week in general for jam bands in Boulder. At 9:30 tonight at Trilogy, Larry - a seven-piece blues-flavored jam band out of Austin, Texas - takes the stage. The group's latest disc, A Family Album, reveals a Blues Traveler-influenced approach to the jam sound, with lots of harmonica licks and a boogie-rock feel. Tickets are $5; call (303) 473-9463. A Family Album came out on Willie Nelson's Luck Records; Larry's next disc will appear on Boulder-based Lauan Records, an up-and-coming jam-band label that also handles Wise Monkey Orchestra, Day By the River and Vinyl . That California-based instrumental group puts more of a multicultural twist on the style, mixing Latin percussion and funky bass grooves with a tight horn lines, '70s-style electric piano and juicy Hammond organ. Vinyl performs at the Fox at 9 p.m. Saturday with openers the All Mighty Senators. Tickets are $10.50; call (303) 443-3399. |
