FUNK MASTERWORK AS LIMITED EDITION

BOULDER, CO (July 26, 2001) -- WISE MONKEY ORCHESTRA first issued MAKE BELIEVE
  on its own One Drop Entertainment label in 1998 and sold 5,000 copies before
it slipped out of print due to a combination of circumstances. Lauan Records
(LEW-on), "The Jamband Label," is proud and delighted to give this exciting
album -- the six-headed San Diego rhythm monster's second release on Lauan --
its due and make it available once again for WMO fans who missed it the first
time around, and more recent converts everywhere as a special, limited
edition item.

MAKE BELIEVE is a smart, sassy set of 9 songs and 2 cooking instrumentals,
all original WMO compositions. From the first drum and conga beats of the
opener, "The Truth," all the way through the set, it's hard not to bounce
along with the insistent, seductive grooves of  the band recently hailed by
the Salt Lake City Weekly as "one of SoCal's finest funk 'n' soul units."
Best described as horn-driven, soulful funk powered by the lead vocals of
sizzling frontwoman Alley, WMO's unique, highly danceable sound combines
infectious, shake-your-booty grooves with mind-expanding trips through time
and space.

On MAKE BELIEVE, WISE MONKEY ORCHESTRA revisits a funky, horn and percussion
drenched style not heard much since the late '70s. Keyboardist Sean Hart, who
co-founded WISE MONKEY ORCHESTRA a decade ago, describes the stew as "if
Donna Summer, David Bowie and Brian Eno were at a picnic with the Average
White Band -- kind of Ozric Tentacles stuff going on in there, too." Most
affectionately, he adds, "It's an artsy-fartsy record. We do some
experimental work there, especially "Smog," my favorite on the album. We
still do quite a bit of these tunes live, at least 79%."

"It' just nice to be able to have MAKE BELIEVE out again. A lot of people on
the East Coast and other places we didn' travel to then have never really
heard it. We really enjoyed making that album."

WISE MONKEY ORCHESTRA thrives playing live on the road.They have shared
stages with Maceo Parker, moe., Fishbone, JGB, Pharcyde and the Gap Band to
name but a few. WMO has taken Summer 2001off the road from promoting their
acclaimed Lauan debut, They Live ("A smoky haze of slow-burning soul," says
Creative Loafing Savannah), as Alley, already a mother of two, is pregnant
and due in early fall.The band plans to hit the road as soon as possible to
reconnect with WMO fans everywhere.

Lauan Records, "The Jamband Label," is dedicated to building a community for
the burgeoning jamband scene. Founded to chronicle the creative efforts of
jambands across the United States, Lauan Records is not just another record
label. It is for and by fans, providing them with a network to discover new
bands and new shows, unifying what has traditionally been an extremely
regional scene. Many have
described Lauan not as a record label, but more as an artist community.
