Artist Biography
In 1968, Herbie Hancock said, "there is a type of music in
between jazz and rock. It has elements of both but retains and
builds on its own identity." Day By the River has taken this
undefinable style to new heights with their explosive shows and
amazing improvisational brand of live Rock n Roll. The energy at
a DBR show is unmatchable. With sellout shows from Miami to
Atlanta and St. Louis, the underground is starting to come apart
at the seams for this dynamic quintet from Athens, GA. The
band's gig schedule has grown outrageously in the past year, as
the band has toured up and down the East Coast, averaging 20
shows per month, and playing for thousands of people in clubs,
theatres, festivals and colleges in more than 20 states. The band
has been busy on the MP3 front these days, preparing for the
release of Watermarks, a CD containing over four hours of live
Day By the River music. The album, possibly the first of its kind,
contains an HTML interface that allows the user to download
MP3 player software directly from the disc. Every track, the
lengths of which vary from three minutes to over 20, is encoded
in MP3 format, and can be played directly from the CD. Fans,
proclaiming themselves "River Rats," have started an Internet
discussion list where listeners can trade setlists, show reviews,
and any other information imaginable about the band. DBR
strongly encourages taping at their shows, and many fans have
developed their own web sites featuring MP3 files of songs from
recent performances. Be careful requesting their rock anthem
Naked unless you're ready to see clothes start flying. Audiences
all over the East Coast are starting to show some serious skin at
the sound of the first notes of their most popular tune. DBR will
embark on a national tour this summer.
